ginger 2015

ginger 2015 // movita beaucoup

It’s time! Competitive gingering at its best/worst! Here’s how this year’s competition is gunna go down.

When you send in your Ginger 2015 entries, a team of highly trained ginger professionals (2.0 and I) will group your masterpieces according to crappiness/awesomeness/theme. Gingerbread savants will battle other savants in their online grouping. Ginger creations that look like they were slapped together by well-intentioned baboons? Well, they’ll be grouped accordingly. Crappy entries are welcome! (PLEASE send me some crappy entries. They make Ginger way more fun.)

Here’s whatcha gotta do:

  1. Create a gingerbread house. I don’t like rules, so if it’s a structure zoned residential, agricultural and/or commercial, I’m happy. Slap up some sort of building. Yes, you can glue stuff on. Yes, you can use a kit. Yes, you can use inedible add-ons. No, I will not respond to emails requesting clarification. FIGURE IT OUT.
  2. Let’s face it, half of you will send in ginger horses, locomotives, carousels and crime scenes. Those aren’t houses, bozo. Alas, I don’t give a flying fart. I have far more important things to worry about (world peace, artisanal cheeses, why the left side of my hair looks so awful lately). So go ahead, enter your ginger whatever.
  3. Send me a picture (two maximum) of your ginger thing by Sunday, December 13, 2015, 11:59 pm AST. Photos shouldn’t include any humans, because I don’t like people.
  4. Send TWO photos only. I’m not kidding. Don’t send me six and ask me to pick two. I WILL PICK ZERO and send your entry back to you. And don’t send me a photo you found online and then claim it as your own, weirdo.
  5. Send your name, email, and some information about your entry. If you’re a blogger, please send a link to your blog so I can share it with people. Personal information (such as your email address and weight) will not be posted. Just your first name, photos, and the stupid stuff you tell me about your “creative process” (aka the inspiration you found at the bottom of a bottle). Your info and photos should be sent to movita {at} live.ca.
  6. I beg of you – tell me something, anything – about your gingerhouse. Take a look at past entries to see what sort of things people send in. I get that you are busy brushing your horses and counting your money stacks, but if you can’t be bothered to tell me a single thing about your ginger creation, I can’t be bothered to write something clever/smart-assed about it. Do you see what is happening here? I DON’T LIKE IT WHEN MY VOICE SOUNDS LIKE THIS.
  7. Wait for your super-awesome ginger masterpiece to appear on movitabeaucoup.com. I will make fun of it/you. That’s how things work around here. If you don’t have a sense of humour, love Jason Bateman, or think this is the best video ever, you should probably move on.
  8. Watch the people of the interwebs vote (or perhaps not vote) for your super-awesome ginger structure. Online polling WILL NOT DETERMINE THE 2015 CHAMPION. But it will determine the winner of the 2015 People’s Choice Prize!
  9. The 2015 Ginger Panel will assess the entries and determine the 1st and 2nd place winners.
  10. Win bragging rights, the respect and admiration of many, and a crappy prize!

I’m assembling a crack team of Ginger Judges, and they will determine this year’s champion. There is no specific criteria, and their decision is final. They might consider: skill level, techniques used/attempted, mediums incorporated, overall appearance, use of theme, or the clever stories you submit about your creative process. Of course, they might just pick an entry that makes them feel sorry for the sadsack that created it. You no like, you no enter.

The one competitor receiving the most overall online votes will win the 2015 People’s Choice Prize.

Prizes

This year’s prizes are very modest, because I refuse to remortgage my home for this competition. I mean, I’d love to give you KitchenAid mixers and brand new cars, but I’m not Sherry Brydson. More importantly, this is a for-fun competition. You no like, you no enter.

1st Place:

(Determined by the 2015 Ginger Panel.)

A $50.00 Amazon* gift card which you can spend on anything you darn well please, but if it were me, I’d buy this and this.

2nd Place:

(Determined by the 2015 Ginger Panel.)

A $25.00 Amazon* gift card which you can spend on anything you like, but I’d highly recommend this and this.

People’s Choice:

(Determined by the People of the Interwebs through online polling.)

A $25.00 Amazon* gift card which you should spend on candy and this.

*  *  *

Yes, it is possible that the winner of the People’s Choice Prize may also win the 1st or 2nd place prize. Sometimes life isn’t fair, kiddo.

The competition starts NOW! Early entries are appreciated more than I can tell you!

Send your entries by Sunday, December 13th to movita {at} live.ca or click on the email icon in the sidebar. Honestly, if you can’t figure out how to email me, you probably shouldn’t enter an online competition.

(Tips on entering my competitions can be found here!)

(Check out previous Ginger entries here!)

*Amazon US or Canada, your choice.

I did another gingerbread house…..remember my third ginger piece, Cindy’s Castle….well last year I was too busy planning my wedding that I didn’t get around to putting together a piece….I just finished one for this year though. It’s not as grand as the castle….I think I reached my peek too soon…LOL…I like this years though….I’d totally live there. I’ll be entering this year, intent on winning! 🙂

    • movita beaucoup on November 15, 2015 at 4:20 pm

Okay, I’m ALREADY EXCITED! Thank goodness you didn’t let any weddings interfere with this year’s gingering…

I now know what I’m getting people for christmas (thanks to the things you linked to on amazon). Also, GINGER 2015! I’m so excited! But I’m also not participating this year, because I’m super lame, and also, last year I disappeared into the kitchen for 7 whole days and came out the other side having forgotten how to communicate with anyone/anything not made out of gingerbread, gumpaste, or icing. I am forever in awe of those who do it every year and don’t need to re-acclimate to the civilized world afterwards.

WILLOW – I will participate in your honor.

      • movita beaucoup on November 17, 2015 at 6:09 am

        Yesssssssssss!

    • Destini on November 21, 2015 at 6:33 pm

  5. Monica Eskridge on November 18, 2015 at 11:22 pm

As reigning world ginger champion, I’m super excited about this!

  6. Mary Gary on November 19, 2015 at 5:39 pm

I did not see the “theme” anywhere in your crappy post about the ginger competition. What is it?

    • movita beaucoup on November 20, 2015 at 7:28 am

There is no theme other than ginger! As stated, I’m not a fan of rules – they curb creativity!

  7. Cheryl Barnhart on November 19, 2015 at 9:35 pm

I have never been more thoroughly entertained than by reading your contest guidelines….ginger sarcasm at it’s best!!!♡♡

    • movita beaucoup on November 20, 2015 at 7:29 am

Ginger sarcasm is the most tasty of all the sarcasms!

  8. Destini on November 21, 2015 at 6:31 pm

I sent in my entry. This is my first time doing a contest online and my first gingerbread house. Where do I find all the entries at? Like where do I tell people to go vote for mine at? LOL sorry I am new to this!

    • movita beaucoup on November 21, 2015 at 7:08 pm

Hi Destini, I just got your entry, and will send you a confirmation email by tomorrow evening. The voting won’t take place until later in December, so you’ll have lots of time to rally your supporters! I’m so glad you’re joining the festivities!

  9. Manon beland on November 24, 2015 at 5:58 pm

Hi ! Is it only for U.S resident? I am over sea but would love to !

    • movita beaucoup on November 24, 2015 at 8:30 pm

Anyone can enter (I’m based in Canada), but the prizes (Amazon gift cards) are awarded for the American and Canadian sites only. So, should you win, you’d either need to be willing to use a US or CDN Amazon card, or gift it to someone on this side of the ocean!

  10. Manon beland on November 24, 2015 at 7:06 pm

Me again … Oops … Us and Canadian residents ?

Can’t wait to see this year’s entries, stories and comments! None for me this year 🙁 as we are in the middle of a kitchen remodel 🙂 but I hope to be back in 2016. Good luck to everyone and happy gingering!

    • movita beaucoup on December 3, 2015 at 6:33 am

You must be suffering ginger detox symptoms! We’ll look forward to having you back next year – good luck with the remodel, and happy holidays! xox

You have the best taste in Amazon. Amen.

    • movita beaucoup on December 6, 2015 at 8:22 am

      It’s a skill. I think I’ll update my resumé…

  13. Cassie on December 14, 2015 at 1:54 pm

Darn, I missed the deadline 🙁
Good luck to all the entrants!

    • movita beaucoup on December 15, 2015 at 8:12 pm

Cassie! This is horrible. It won’t be the same without you. Obviously I’ll have to start sending you reminder emails next July.
