ginger 2014

ginger 2014 | movita beaucoup

It’s time! Competitive gingering at its best/worst! Here’s how this year’s competition is gunna go down.

When you send in your Ginger 2014 entries, a team of highly trained ginger professionals (2.0 and I) will group your masterpieces according to crappiness/awesomeness. Gingerbread savants will battle other savants in their online grouping. Ginger creations that look like they were slapped together by well-intentioned narwhals? Well, they’ll be grouped accordingly. Crappy entries are welcome!

Here’s whatcha gotta do:

  1. Create a gingerbread house. I don’t like rules, so if it’s a structure zoned residential, agricultural and/or commercial, I’m happy. Slap up some sort of building. Yes, you can glue stuff on. Yes, you can use inedible add-ons. No, I will not respond to emails requesting clarification. FIGURE IT OUT.
  2. Send movita a picture (two maximum) of your ginger structure by Monday, December 15, 2014, 11:59 pm AST. Photos shouldn’t include any humans. Email them to movita {at} live.ca.
  3. Send TWO photos only. I’m not kidding. And don’t send me some photo you found online and then claim it as your own. Bleck.
  4. Send your name, email, and any other information you might want included with your entry. Personal information (such as email and weight) will not be posted. Just your first name, photos, and the stupid stuff you tell me about your “creative process.” (This could be useful if your ginger structure doesn’t conform to society’s accepted definition of a well-crafted entry.)
  5. If you’re a blogger, please send a link to your blog. Don’t assume I know who you are. I’m pretty stupid.
  6. Wait for your super-awesome ginger masterpiece to appear on movitabeaucoup.com. I will make fun of it/you. That’s how things work around here.
  7. Watch the people of the interwebs vote/not vote for your super-awesome ginger structure. These votes WILL NOT DETERMINE THE 2014 CHAMPION. But they will determine the winner of the People’s Choice Prize!
  8. The 2014 Ginger Panel will assess the entries and determine the winner. I’ll introduce you to the members of the 2014 Ginger Panel soon.
  9. Win bragging rights, the respect and admiration of many, and a prize!

Popular vote will not determine this year’s winner, as it’s hard for those without massive social media followings to compete in online polling. I hear being unpopular is really hard, so I’m hoping this will help level the playing field. Also, this is my blog, so I get to make the rules. You no like, you no enter.

I’ve assembled a crack team of ginger judges, and they will determine this year’s champion. There is no specific criteria. They may consider: skill level, techniques used/attempted, mediums incorporated, overall appearance, use of theme, or the clever stories you submit about your creative process. Of course, they might just pick an entry that makes them laugh.

That said, the winner of the most online votes will win the 2014 People’s Choice Prize. Because popular people shouldn’t be punished for being so popular.

Prizes

ginger 2014 prizes | movita beaucoup

Yes, it is possible that the winner of the People’s Choice Prize may also win the 1st or 2nd place prize. Yes, that means they’ll be popular AND prize laden. You no like, you no enter.

I’ve made a concerted effort to keep this year’s prizes modest. I mean, I’d love to give you KitchenAid mixers and brand new cars, but I’m not Oprah. More importantly, I think the holiday season should be about having fun, being charitable and making dreams come true. So, rather than giving this month’s entire candy allowance to you, I have created:

The Sugarplum Bursary

The Sugarplum Bursary is a fund I’ve started in the name of Ginger to allow dancers in financial need continue their studies at The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts (MPCA). Established in 1887, MCPA is a registered charitable and non-profit organization, and (possibly) home to some ghosts. Getting an education in dance is expensive, and some families are making huge sacrifices to give their children the opportunity to be just like me. This bursary will be awarded to a student or students in need, and applied to their second term tuition in January. (A committee at MCPA accepts applications and determines which students are most in need of support.)

My friends at Crosby’s Molasses have donated $150.00 in the name of Ginger, and I have donated $100.00. I’ll also be selling my almost-famous ballerina toppers in the coming weeks and will donate 100% of the sales to the bursary fund. Fundraising goal: 500 gingery dollars (total). I’ll keep you updated on progress!

You should know that I do not receive any financial compensation, payments or products from Crosby’s Molasses. Crosby’s loves gingerbread, and has been involved with my Ginger competition since 2012 in order to offer up some prizes for you and now, help kids dance. I count Crosby’s Molasses among my sweetest (and stickiest) friends. Maybe stop by their facebook page and say hello?

The competition starts NOW! Early entries are appreciated more than I can tell you. Help a lady out.

Send your entries by Monday, December 15th to movita {at} live.ca or click on the email icon in the sidebar. Honestly, if you can’t figure out how to email me, you probably shouldn’t enter an online competition.

(Tips on entering my competitions can be found here!)

I’m so looking forward to seeing all the wonderful gingerbread creations this year. I had such fun participating last year. I wasn’t able to make one for this year…..I had another huge project that has taken all my time and energy….my wedding….in 24 days and counting. LOL

    • movita beaucoup on November 20, 2014 at 11:43 am

I guess your wedding should take priority, Cindy. Though… you could have made gingerbread wedding cake. Two birds?

You’re right….i probably should have considered that….LOL That really would have made a great deal of sense. Part of me is really sad I didn’t think of it!! I could have made a elegant shabby chic gingerbread wedding cake creation!!

Bring. It. On. Forget everything else, I’m breakin’ out the apron and entering this competition, even if my “house” is more like a “frosting and cookie blob” (because who doesn’t want to live in a frosting and cookie blob?!)
