movita’s veggie patch – progress report { 1 }
Big news. After 18 straight days of rain, we finally saw the sun on Friday, and we saw glimpses again over the course of the weekend. It was short-lived, and it is pouring again today. It’s hard to believe that there can be more water up there… Rain is forecast for all of this week, and I fear that my veggie patch will be washed away. The soil is water-soaked and packed down, and I imagine my little seeds are floating in a muddy bath.
There is a little good news though – a glimmer of hope. On Friday, during that wee respite from the rain, I crawled through the garden and found a sprout. An onion sprout. Feast your eyes, people! And yesterday, we found a row of tiny little radish leaves pushing through the rain packed soil.
So, not all is lost. How anything has managed to survive this Maritime Monsoon, I don’t know. Now, let’s hope we can all survive the collective depression that this rain has brought upon most of the city. (I’m thinking gobs of cake might help.)
.
Woohoo! You are only steps away from never shopping for veggies again. Congrats on your first onion baby, may there be many more!
Yup, that definitely looks like an onion, lets hope all its friends arrive soon too. You can see the indents of the rain on the soil too. Enough is enough I say, we’ll blow a little sunshine your way. I do like the idea of gobs of cake by the way, I don’t think I’ve ever had a gob of cake before!
