ginger 2012
Do you like to compete? Sure you do. Do you follow movita’s annual gingerbread competition? Of course you do. Do you want to participate this year? Hells yah, you do! So listen, poodle, why don’t you get off your butt and compete against me and some other losers cool people from the interwebs?
Here’s what you do:
- Create a super-awesome gingerbread house. It could even be a condo. I don’t like rules, so as long as it is a structure zoned residential, agricultural and/or commercial, I’m happy. Slap up some sort of building, people.
- Send movita a picture (two maximum) of your super-awesome gingerbread house by Sunday, December 16th @ midnight (in your time zone). Photos shouldn’t include you/your kids/your pets – we just wanna see your ginger masterpiece. Also, if you could downsize your photos to around 500k, that would be awesome. Please don’t crash my email. (Send photos to movita{at}live.ca or click the email link on the right sidebar.)
- Listen, people, I’m not kidding about the two photo thing. Some of you like to send in, say, twelve photos with a charming note that says, “oh, I dunno, movita, you pick.” Cut it out. I don’t have time for that crap. Send in TWO photos. If you send more, I will return your email to you and tell you to pick TWO photos and re-submit your entry. I don’t like it when my voice sounds like this.
- Don’t send me some photo you found online and then claim it as your own. Seriously.
- Be sure to send your name, email, blog address and any other information you might want included with your entry. That’s right – I’ll post some lame-ass story you tell me about your super-awesome creation on the interweb. If you’re a blogger, send along a link to your blog – that way we can all come visit you over there. Your personal information (email, last name, weight) will not be posted on the interweb. Just your first name, your photos, and anything dumb you’ve insisted I include about your house like, “my dog helped me decorate this gingerbread house, and he got royal icing all over his tail! Isn’t that hilarious? LOL!!” Actually, I refuse to post LOL’s on my blog, so don’t bother trying.
- Watch for a picture of your super-awesome gingerbread house to appear on movita beaucoup. I will, in all likelihood, make fun of your house. Deal.
- Watch people vote for your super-awesome gingerbread house. The voting will take place Wednesday, December 19th to Friday, December 21. Because competing is festive! The winner will be officially announced on Saturday, December 22rd.
- Win the respect and admiration of many. And, wait for it… a prize.
The prize has been sponsored by yours truly – because dealing drugs at college has been very profitable. The winner will receive:
Decorating Cookies: 60+ Designs for Holidays, Celebrations & Everyday (Bridget Edwards)
and
The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook (Deb Perelman)
UPDATE: CROSBY’S MOLASSES HAS ADDED THREE MORE COOKBOOKS TO THE PRIZE POT! CLICK HERE FOR THE DEETS!
I know what you’re thinking: movita, what happens if you win? Well, in the extremely unlikely event that I win the competition, the runner-up will receive the prize. Historically, I’ve come in last place, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
So, it’s settled. Start decorating your sugar shacks, and send me your photos.
Email photo(s) of your entry to movita {at} live.ca by Sunday, December 16, 2011.
Here’s the link to past competitions.
The competition starts… NOW!
In the interest of fairness, I need to tell the other potential competitors something: I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen this year, but as it turns out, both my mom and my sister will be here with me over thanksgiving (in america, where it wasn’t a month ago).
People, it’s like having THREE OF ME IN THE SAME LOCATION. it’s why, during normal times of the year, we live in separate states; our heads would literally explode with random ideas for things to do were we geographically closer to each other. And i have already declared this our Official Thanksgiving Craft, among other lesser crafts.
Be afraid.
I is ascared.
Ok…I am going for it…..watch out in that email inbox of yours….some epic shit is about to hit your gingerbread fan. xx If this is going to be 2 photos, it is going to be 2 epic photos !
Man, I’m still cleaning ginger shit off the fan…
Are any other members of your family competing? I think it is important that we know this, you all might be an outrageously talented bunch.. not me tho, I can’t even build a guinea pig house..so I am fairly sure that I could not build a gingerbread house.. plus i am supposed to be writing a bloody book! love love c
I cannot confirm or deny. That said, my sister is vicious, and will probably compete just to spite me.
Excellent, I have a sister like that too, maybe I should enter HER! c
This is great timing cause I need two more cookbooks.
Cripes.
Are there recipes for crepes in one of these books??
Craps.
Well I’m really not good at self promotion and though I will build a lovely gingerbread house, I’m not sure I can honestly compete for the prize but will certainly enjoy it for the sake of getting involved. God that sounds pathetic.
But really we need this holiday cookie decorating book way sooner than Dec 22nd. So now if it’s good enough that you want to give it away. I might have to just buy it.
And above all, this is definitely getting me in the holiday spirit… YES!
🙂 x
So. . . Cecelia mentions a “guinea pig house.” Good timing, because I need to know if, theoretically, someone would get disqualified for building a gingerbread house containing a live guinea pig. Not that I was going to do that. *drops the mike.*
Oh man, I really hope I have time for this amongst all my christmas cookie baking (and eating). Especially since this contest has a prize! I’ll really have to outdo my pumpkin though…it’s looking like I’m going to have to think outside the box based on the Carve-off winner 🙂
I can’t wait to see these!! I will not be joining in, as I don’t really have a kitchen set up to make a real Gingerbread house. I could, however, make one using stale bread and candies. But that is not really in the Christmas Spirit. Good Luck to all! May the Best (in the eye of the beholder) Gingerbread House win!!
Ooh! Just seen this competition. I really really want to make a gingerbread house this year…may just have to enter 🙂
As long as your sister’s in the contest, there’s no hope for us mere mortals. That being said, I hope (I hope!) to find the time to do this this year! It’s such fun around your place Movita!! xx
This is such a fun contest, girl!!!
Uhhhhhh so soooon. Too soooooon. Uhhhhhhh MABES!
