pumpkin carve-off 2014

Pumpkin Carve-Off is back!

Listen, I know you like to compete. And I know you like to be judged by strangers on the interwebs. But I also know that some of you have been afraid to enter my competitions because you feel you are not… good enough. And some of you don’t have millions of social media followers, which makes it hard to compete in online polling. But this year, things are going to be a different. This year, you can be unpopular AND inept and still win this competition!

When you send in your Pumpkin Carve-Off 2014 entries, a team of highly trained gourd professionals (2.0 and I) will group your carved masterpieces according to crappiness/awesomeness. If your gourd looks like a pumpkin savant carved it, you’ll compete against other like-minded savants in your online grouping. If your pumpkin looks like it was assembled by a well-intentioned miniature pony? Well, you’ll be corralled accordingly. Crappy pumpkins are welcome. Neigh, encouraged! (Get it? NEIGH?)

Here’s whatcha gotta do:

  1. Carve a pumpkin. I don’t like rules, so as long as it involves some carving, I’m happy. Yes, you can glue stuff on. Yes, you can paint it. No, I will not respond to emails requesting clarification. Carve a pumpkin, dumbass.
  2. Send movita a picture (two maximum) of your super-awesome pumpkin by Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 11:59 pm AST. Photos shouldn’t include you/your kids/humans. Creative staging and lack lustre photography are encouraged.
  3. Send TWO photos only. I’m not kidding. And don’t send me some photo you found online and then claim it as your own. That’s exactly why no one follows you on Twitter.
  4. Send your name, email, and any other information you might want included with your entry. Personal information (email, last name, weight) will not be posted. Just your first name, photos, and the stupid stuff you tell me about your “creative process.” (This could be useful if your pumpkin doesn’t conform to society’s accepted definition of a well-carved pumpkin.)
  5. If you’re a blogger, please send a link to your blog. Don’t assume I know who you are. I’m pretty stupid.
  6. Wait for your super-awesome pumpkin to appear on movitabeaucoup.com. I will make fun of it. That’s how things work around here.
  7. Watch the people of the interwebs vote/not vote for your super-awesome pumpkin. These votes WILL NOT DETERMINE THE 2014 CHAMPION. Yah. You read that right. But they will determine the winner of the People’s Choice Prize!
  8. The 2014 Pumpkin Panel will assess the entries and determine the winner. I’ll introduce you to the members of the 2014 Pumpkin Panel soon.
  9. Win bragging rights, the respect and admiration of many, and a prize! I don’t have corporate sponsors, so my prizes are wee offerings which represent a lot of love.

Popular vote will not determine this year’s winner, as it’s hard for non-celebrities and those without massive social media accounts to compete in online polling. I hear being unpopular is really hard, so I’m hoping this will help level the playing field. Also, this is my blog, so I get to make the rules. You no like, you no enter.

I’ve assembled a team of pumpkin judges, and they will determine this year’s champion. Skill level, techniques used/attempted, mediums incorporated, overall appearance, use of theme, and any clever stories you submit about your creative process will be considered in the decision. I’m quite sure the 2014 Pumpkin Panel will be easily swayed by valiant efforts and utter crappiness.

That said, the winner of the most online votes will win the 2014 People’s Choice Prize. Because popular people shouldn’t be punished for being so desirable.

The Everyday Squash Cook

(This is a brilliant tie-in, people.)

1st Place:

(Determined by the 2014 Pumpkin Panel.)

A $50.00 Amazon* gift card, an autographed copy of The Everyday Squash Cook by Rob Firing, Ivy Knight & Kerry Knight AND a position on the 2014 Ginger Panel. You’ll be a Ginger 2014 judge! Unless you want to enter Ginger 2014. If that is the case, you can appoint a person of your choice to the panel. Which is basically an automatic vote in your favour. TWIST!

2nd Place:

(Determined by the 2014 Pumpkin Panel.)

A $25.00 Amazon* gift card AND an autographed copy of The Everyday Squash Cook by Rob Firing, Ivy Knight & Kerry Knight.

People’s Choice:

(Determined by the People of the Interwebs through online polling.)

A $25.00 Amazon* gift card AND an autographed copy of The Everyday Squash Cook by Rob Firing, Ivy Knight & Kerry Knight.

Every Other Place:

My love and respect.

Yes, it is possible that the winner of the People’s Choice Prize may also win the 1st or 2nd place prize. And yes, that means they can regift their second copy of The Everyday Squash Cook over the holidays, which makes their life easier than yours because they are popular, prize-laden and prepared for the seasonal rush. You no like, you no enter.

The competition starts NOW! Early entries are appreciated more than I can tell you. Help a lady out.

Send your entries to movita {at} live.ca or click on the email icon in the sidebar. Honestly, if you can’t figure out how to email me, you probably shouldn’t enter an online competition.

(Tips for SQUASHING the competition can be found here!)

Last year was the first year that I actually carved a pumpkin since moving to AZ and coincidentally, the first year YOU didn’t have your annual carve-off. and yes, I took it very personally. This year I AM SO IN!

I totally botched my pumpkin last year and was super glad you didn’t do the thing. THIS YEAR it will be awesome. Love the rule changes!

I’ve already begun (surprise, surprise) thinking about what i’m doing for the Carve-Off this year: I suspect nothing will top Lottie’s pumpkin home, but i’m going to give it my all.

    MY ALL.
