Are you ready? Would you like to know who won Ginger 2014? Okay. But first I’d like to tell you a little story about what elementary school was like for me in the 1970’s. Let’s start with Primary. My teacher was Mrs. Churchill…
I jest, of course. After some serious deliberation, the 2014 Ginger Panel has selected our champions:
1st Place: Monica’s Manicured Mansion
Congratulations, Monica!! Your mansion is absolutely breathtaking! As Ginger 2014 Champ, Monica will receive a $75.00 Amazon gift card AND, compliments of Crosby’s Molasses, a copy of Butter Baked Goods (which is Canada’s #1 selling cookbook), a Crosby’s apron, and a copy of the new Crosby’s cookbook Molasses and More.
2nd Place: Ludmilla’s Winter Snowstorm
Our 2nd Place winner, Ludmilla, will receive $50.00 Amazon gift card AND, compliments of Crosby’s Molasses, a copy of their new cookbook, Molasses and More. Congrats, Ludmilla. Your mansion is magical!
2014 People’s Choice Prize: Cyndy’s Brrr… It’s Cold Outside
Cyndy and her 42 small friends received more online votes than any other Ginger competitor! Cyndy will receive a $25.00 Amazon gift card AND her friends at Crosby’s Molasses will send her a copy of their new cookbook, Molasses and More.
Thanks to all you readers who stopped by last week and took the time to cast votes in this epic battle of ginger. I know the words of support and encouragement you left for the competitors were very much appreciated.
The Movita Beaucoup Lifetime Achievement Award of Entering Competitions and Never Winning Awards Award
Toby has entered a LOT of my competitions. She’s one of my students and also one of the biggest movita fangirls I know. Despite never having won a prize, Toby continues to Ginger with enthusiasm! Which is, of course, the whole point of Ginger: having the Big Fun. Toby, in recognition of your stellar taste and good sportswomanship, Paul Caskey – Ginger fan and Executive Producer at Live Art Dance Productions – would like to present you with two tickets to Live Art’s presentation of Ballet BC in Halifax this February! Congrats, Toby, and thank you for representing the spirit of my competitions so well! (And thanks, Paul, for your generous donation.)
I’d like to send a huge thank you out to Crosby’s Molasses for sweetening the prize pot for 2014, and for being such incredible supporters of my competition. Crosby’s has also donated $150.00 in the name of Ginger to my newly established Sugarplum Bursary. That donation, paired with funds I raised selling my ballerina ornaments, has raised enough money to completely pay for a needy dance student’s second term tuition. YIPPIE!
Thanks also to the members of the Ginger Panel. These women were placed in the unenviable position of picking a winner from 37 of the sweetest entries ever. Thank you for your service!
Finally, I’d like to thank all of this year’s competitors. I can personally attest to the amount of time and work that goes into creating ginger masterpieces like the ones we’ve seen this week, and I appreciate all you have done to support my blog and annual competitions. Thanks for being such good sports, for letting me make fun of you, and for being so supportive of your fellow competitors. I hope you had as much fun as I did!
I’ve said it before, but I think it bears repeating: it’s pretty clear that this year’s competitors weren’t here for the winnings. With only three prizes offered, it would seem that this group of bakers was here to share their creativity and some holiday spirit. In an online world so often filled with negativity, I am incredibly proud to have had the opportunity to share your positivity and incredible ginger creations with the world.
