effie movita
Yesterday we bid farewell to our dear Effie. She was my constant and loyal companion for over 15 years. Gentle, kind and sophisticated – that was our Effie.
This past year was filled with much love. I told Effie the story of her adoption over and over again as I rubbed her ears. She ate only her favourite foods. She was kissed a million times.
Effie’s last days were comfortable and happy. We were determined to extend her quality of life, not prolong her death. So when we felt we had reached a time when keeping her might be better for us than her, we decided to let her go. I don’t believe she suffered for even a single day, so mission accomplished.
If there is a cat heaven – and I’m reasonably sure there is – I’d like to make the following requests: that Effie be provided with endless spools of ribbon to play with and chew upon. That no one be allowed to use a toaster. (Ever.) That a buffet of Snappy Tom, Pumpkin Lickin’ Chicken, and tuna juice be at the ready. And that a soft, pink blanket be provided for napping in a secluded, sunny spot.
Rest well, sweet Effie.
So sorry for your loss – Effie was a beauty and you gave her a great life! I hope your many memories and photos of her bring you comfort in the coming months and years. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things, but the joy they bring while they are with us is so worth it. Thinking of you and hoping your other kitties are doing ok!
Thanks, Mellissa. I’m glad Effie went out on a high note, and I think you’re right – memories and photos are very comforting. In other news, Niles and Dorey are hunkered down in the basement right now. Like, two feet from one another. It’s a belated Christmas miracle!
Oh Rach I am so sorry … I know exactly how you are feeling right now … no words make it better, just remember she had the best mommy ever❤️

Thanks, friend. I know you’ve been going through the same thing this week. I think it’s important that with the loss of any friend – furry or human – that we don’t focus on the last day. That instead we focus on the years and years of great times and happiness. We were both very luck fur mamas!
Ohhhhhh no. So sorry for your loss and total sadness 🙁 I remember the awesome video you did with the cats playing on the bed with ribbons. So beautiful. You guys clearly loved Effie !! Sending you love love love love love.
Big love xo
Thank you, sweet friend. I’m sending lots of love back in your direction…

Oh I am so very sorry to hear that. Her year of 5-star treatment sounded really amazing. Everyone should be so lucky as to experience the completely unbiased and unwavering love of a pet. I just wish they didn’t have to always leave us too soon.
When I was making decisions with our vet yesterday, I thought: wouldn’t it be nice if humans could be treated this way? To have a wonderful life and someone to help you go quietly in the end? Certainly, Effie deserved it. She really did give us so much over the years!
So sorry for your lost Rachel. They always take a part of our hearts with them. Sending you hugs from one cat mom to another.
Thanks, Marjorie! Hugs received and most appreciated.
My heart is breaking for you. I’m so sorry ????
Thanks, Kirsten. xox
Such a beautiful sweet soul. They are hear for a short time really and are so cherished. Hugs Rachael!
Thanks, Barb! I’m glad we had Effie for so many great years. AND she got to lay under the Christmas tree for two weeks straight! It was a good send off… xox
Oh I am so sorry to hear this. It is so hard losing a special fur baby.
What a wonderful life Effie had, I will forever remember your adorable stories you have shared over the years. She was only lucky lady to have had such a long and happy existence in the Dyer household. Xoxox
Thanks, Andrea. I think Effie had a great life. I know she made ours better over the years! xox
Aww… so sorry, but glad to hear she was comfy and well until the end. We can all hope to be as loved and cared for in life as Effie!
I’m sure she loved hearing about her adoption over and over. What a sweet way to send her off to the land of kitty buffets and no toasters. I’m so sorry you lost your sweet beautiful girl.
Thanks, Karen. Also, not sure what the deal was with toasters, but god help you if you wanted anything other than soft bread!
From the dog lovers- Rest well Effie. We know what it is to loose a true friend. May you never ever have to face the sound of a toaster or a barking dog. I am sure the Almighty will keep the tuna water flowing with all the tasty things you enjoy. As I tell my beloved pups- wait for me on the other side Mommy will be there on the by and by.
Thanks for these sweet words, Tanya. xox
