Late last night – in the early morning hours, I suppose – we bid farewell to our dear friend Niles. He was my shadow and loyal companion for over 15 years. Goofy, affectionate and the sweetest of sweet – that was our Niles.

Our hearts are broken.

Niles lived a good and happy life. Even in old age he never outgrew his kitten-ness. And until just a couple of hours before his death he was playing and snuggling. Saying goodbye was completely unexpected. I’m thankful that we were home, that he was able to tell us that it was time, and for the outstanding care and compassion we were provided at Metro Animal Emergency Clinic.

If there is a cat heaven – and I’m quite sure there is – I’d like to make the following requests: that Niles be provided with endless bowls of water to splash in and a soft blanket to nap on. That tasty treats and a sunny window with plenty of bird-watching opportunities be at the ready. That he be allowed to help with paperwork and bed-making whenever he likes. And should a few playmates be made available to play krinkle-ball-fetch and laser-dot-chase, I’d be most appreciative.

Rest well, sweet Niles.

So sad for the loss of dear Niles. I’ve always loved his presence there from so long past.

He was one of a kind! I have always said that there wasn’t a person that met him that didn’t fall in love with him! ?

I’m so sorry to read of Niles passing. Heartbreaking ?. May he enjoy endless bird watching, sparkly balls, laser dots, warm spots in the sun, peeking around corners and endless scratches. Love to you. ❤️

I had a hard time sleeping last night and then realized it was because I could breathe. How does one sleep without a cat on one’s face?!

I’ll think of you and Niles at night when Eclipse sets on my head getting ready to go to purr and fall asleep.

I have fond memories of watching Niles chase the laser dot when he was a youngster. It’s good to know he had a happy life. He was lucky to find such a good home.

    • movita beaucoup on February 19, 2019 at 7:09 am

Thanks, Frances. We’re so glad that we had so many happy years with Niles. (And the laser pointer.) ?

Oh he has been your companion for so long. Whenever I watch reruns of Fraser and Niles comes in I always get an extra chuckle thinking of how you named your kitten after your “heartthrob”
And there is a cat heaven, right next to the dog heaven named “beautiful Jor’s Paradise “
    Hugs?

Thanks, Barb. I know you’ve been through it too. I’m so glad to have had my dream man by my side for so many years! ?

Your sweet Niles looks so much like my Boris and Myles that they could all be brothers. May you hold him in your heart forever.

As sad as this is, it is a wonderful thing that you all had each other. the Best of the BEST of lives for Niles. I am tickled that you named him after one of my favorite TV characters too. My dear girl Jessica is in Kitty Heaven and would be beyond delighted to be a playmate and snuggle buddy.

Now that we’ve had a little time to recover from the shock, we’re more able to focus on the wonderful times we had with Niles! He was the silliest, sweetest little thing ever! xox

Ahh. I am so sorry your Niles has left. But what a wonderful life you shared together. So many memories to help you fill the enormous void he leaves behind.

You are so right, Judy. We are so glad we got to enjoy him for so many years… ?

…I am so sorry. 🙁 Niles was so handsome, and he clearly knew how loved he was.
He was even loved by people like me, who had never met him in “real life”, only through the internet.
Thankfully you’re an AMAZING photographer and have gorgeous photos of him……..
Again…I am so sorry to hear this news.

    • movita beaucoup on February 19, 2019 at 2:40 pm

Thanks so much. He really was a special cat – we’re going to miss him, but I’m also just so glad that he was ours for so long! ❤️

I am so heartbroken for you both, and my heart is hurting as well because I know this pain. I am so sorry for your loss. Niles had the most pampered, love-filled life with you, and he left this earth surrounded by love. I don’t have magical words to fix things, and I know that’s not how love and grieving work, but I wish I could say something to lessen the pain a little bit. I’m sorry, Movita. ❤️ You’re in our thoughts and prayers. *Big hugs*

    • movita beaucoup on February 19, 2019 at 2:43 pm

Thanks, Kirsten. We’re definitely feeling comforted and supported by the kind words of so many. We’re feeling a little better today and I’m finding great comfort in remembering the many, many goofy things Niles did with us over the years. A friend of mine wrote him a theme song which I will admit to singing on our way to emergency:

      Niles, Niles,
The kitten that looks like a cow,
He does not moo but he does meow!

      It’s quite catchy. ?

so sad. I am so sorry for the loss of your precious soul mate – i know how hard that is. I think our dear 4-footed friends have a very special in the here after because how could it be any type of heaven without them. so I’m betting Miles is there laying in the sun or playing crinkle ball. though i suspect it doesn’t help your heart to be less sore hearing that. May you find some peace and comfort in your cherished memories of him.

    • movita beaucoup on February 20, 2019 at 7:56 am

We have many, many great memories and they definitely bring us comfort!

  16. Bonnie on February 19, 2019 at 9:27 pm

I am so sorry. It is very hard when we lose a special family member. It leaves a hole in your heart. It also takes a while to get used to the fact that your shadow isn’t there anymore. Sending hugs of sympathy.

      Thanks, Bonnie. ?

So deeply sorry to read of the loss of your sweet kitty. 🙁 They are our family. I have human children and furry children. The furry ones are much nicer and do not eat my peanut butter and are therefore much better roommates. I will pour a drink for your dead homey-kitty.

    • movita beaucoup on February 23, 2019 at 8:21 am

These are excellent points – I mean, Niles NEVER ate my peanut butter. ??
