team haghopper's ginger carve-off | movita beaucoup

I am pleased to announce that Team Haghopper has officially won Pumpkin Carve-Off 2012! People, this shows what you can do when you think outside of the box and throw in a little nudity. Congrats to Haddy and Grasshopper! (Your pumpkin is one of my most favourite of all time.)

I’d like to send a huge thank you out to all of this year’s competitors. I can personally attest to the amount of work that goes into creating jack-o’-lanterns like yours, and I appreciate all you do to support my blog and these competitions. Thanks for being such good sports, for letting me make fun of you, and for being so supportive of your fellow competitors.

I’d also like to thank all of the voters out there – I appreciate the time you took to head on over here to cast your votes in this epic battle of the gourds.

Finally, I’d like to send a special shout out to my daddy, Bill Beaucoup. (That’s his shadowy figure in that photo up above.) On Saturday evening, Bill Beaucoup attempted to carve a very fancy fish into the side of his pumpkin, and there was a major collapse. (I guess the fish made a break for it.) Bill Beaucoup was pretty devastated. Pumpkin carving is, like, his thing. But one stupid fish pumpkin can’t erase 40 years of epic carving. Nope, no way. So, Bill Beaucoup, I’d like to award you the inaugural Movita Beaucoup Lifetime Achievement Award in the Art of Pumpkining Award. Turns out you can’t fit the name of the award onto a trophy, so… no trophy at this point. Still, enjoy the fame that this title will surely bring you. Thanks for making every holiday just that little bit more special, Pops.

FYI, Bill Beaucoup tackled that fish pumpkin again (Beaucoups are notoriously stubborn), and sent me this photo last night – just after his second favourite daughter (and Grasshopper) tied down Pumpkin Carve-Off 2012.

Magic.

    I love the fish pumpkin!

that fish pumpkin is the most breathtaking carved something i have ever seen in my life. does he just spend all year practicing? does he whittle full-time? WOW. That’s incredible. Yeah; i’d say pumpkin carving is Bill Beaucoup’s “thing.” you know what my thing is? NEVER COMPETING AGINST BILL BEAUCOUP IN A CARVING COMPETITION. he deserves that lifetime achievement award.
congrats to Team Haghopper! certainly even if i had won my group in the first rounds, i would have never beaten them in the finals. I’m going to dust myself off and work on some schematics for Ginger 2012.

Half of Team Haghopper humbly accepts this great honour and extends its gratitude and admiration to Shannon and the other fine competitors in this year’s competition. The other half is sitting in a dry bathtub singing a song called “Grasshoppers Are The Very Very Best.”

i’d probably be doing the same, had i won. I suppose i’d need to sub out “grasshoppers” for “sheep” or something, and work out the timing, but it wouldn’t deter me.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM STEVE MURRAY OCTOBER 31 2012

It was an honour to win this contest all by myself, even though it was completely expected. I’ve long been a fan of Moviba —and her Internet “diary”— and to join the ranks of other people that have won contests here is a dream come true. I’m looking forward to receiving my prize of a cookbook which I will never open and, in all likelihood, will sell for drug money.

    Thanks again.

And such an honour to compete against the likes of your greatness, grasshoppour

      • Steve Murray on October 31, 2012 at 11:46 am

Thank you. The pleasure was all mine, in the sense that I am always competing with myself to become even better.

        • Rosie Beaucoup on October 31, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Ah, does this mean that next year, you will take off more clothes??

          • Steve Murray on October 31, 2012 at 4:28 pm

I find clothes very restrictive when I’m trying to carve. So, probably.

What wonderful carvings and congratulations to the winner! The fish pumpkin takes pumpkin carvings to an entirely new level!

  6. annewoodman on October 31, 2012 at 10:10 am

Wow. That fish pumpkin is above and beyond any pumpkin carving I’ve ever seen. Great job, Bill Beaucoup!

Loved seeing what all the contestants carved. So amazing!

  7. emma on October 31, 2012 at 10:24 am

How does the fish stick out like that? It’s brilliant! Congrats on your MBLAAITAOP Award, Bill Beaucoup!

    • Rosie Beaucoup on October 31, 2012 at 1:47 pm

He used a glass fish that was handcrafted here in Nova Scotia. He cut out the shape on the side of the pumpkin and held the glass fish in place with tiny nails. Then let the light shine through!

Some epic pumpkin carving that actually makes me glad ours went mouldy and turned to mush before I had the chance to take a picture and that the second attempts weren’t ready until after the deadline because I can’t remember dates. It’s a thing with me.

    Rock on pumpkin carvers!

  9. Kim Bee on October 31, 2012 at 11:25 am

Crikey I am so glad the winning team is going to put that prize to good use. Moviba must be beaming right now. Next year should be a riot, if a tub o’ nudity got it done this year what are we in for next year. I’m giddy with anticipation. Let the games begin.

Bill is one talented pumpkin carver. That fish is off the chain. Or hook. Whatevs. Now if you tell me he carved it naked in a tub I’ll be doubly impressed.

Congrats all. You are all the wind beneath Movita’s school uniform. xx

  10. spree on October 31, 2012 at 12:13 pm

OK Movita, first of all that IS the finest most whimsical pumpkin creation I think I’ve ever seen. Second of all, your family (every last one of ’em) rocks! Third, I’d like you to consider adopting me. (Never mind that I’m older and never mind that my family – well most of them – would have to come along.) xxx!

You father’s fish pumpkin is awesome! I want to take my vote back for the Ginger Pumpkin and vote for your dad instead!

  12. cecilia on October 31, 2012 at 2:18 pm

Goodness me your dad is fantastic, that is quite three dimensional.. what fun you are all having! c

  13. texydeb on October 31, 2012 at 3:12 pm

I would have voted for the fish, AWESOME! He deserves a tropy for sure! 🙂

I tried to carve a pumpkin last night with my blog’s logo on it – just Whisks & Words with a whisk outlined. Couldn’t make the whisk stop looking phallic, and my writing looked like I asked a four year-old to do it. Mad, mad, maddest props to all those pumpkin carvers – y’all got skills! 🙂

  16. Juls on November 1, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Holy Crap. That fish pumpkin is, like, the most amazing piece of gourd art I think anyone has ever seen.

  17. Amy on November 3, 2012 at 11:09 pm

A wonderful competition with amazing entries. Though I’m sad to have lost, the winner was certainly a creative one! Can’t wait for next year 🙂
