oatmeal chocolate chip cookies {crap no. 2}

oatmeal chocolate chip cookies | movita beaucoup

Sometimes I have so much crap to tell you about that I just wanna explode. It’s hard to work all that stuff into a cohesive post along with a recipe for pheasant under glass. So, here’s some crap I’ve been meaning to tell you about with a recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. (Because they’re easier to make than pheasant under glass.)

Christmas 2012 was freakin’ next level. I gained back all of the weight I lost during the first term of baking school. So, mission accomplished.

The Yehlings set their ginger Buckingham Palace on fire and then sent me videos of the event. They totally get me.

This month at baking school, I’m learning to make 4 million types of European bread. That means we’ll be taking yer average yeast beast and we’ll be making it top-notch sophisticated. (Like me.) Also, we’ll be making bagels, pretzels, english muffins and some gluten free stuff. I’m a glutton for gluten, but I guess it makes some people poop their pants, so I’m all for lending society a hand.

I might teach myself to breakdance.

I’ve been pretty obsessed with Kanye West for a long time – and now that there’s a baby on the way? COME ON! But I’m also thinking that 50 Cent might deserve a little more of my attention…

I’m on the hunt for a work term in the spring. That means I get to work at a bakeshop and learn some next level awesome from a baking guru. I’m so freakin’ excited that I can’t focus. Also, that means some lucky bake-crew gets five weeks of free labour and five weeks of me being me. That’s money in the bank, people.

A kid helped me get into the college the other morning. Yah. You read that right. It was a dark and bitterly cold morning, and I as I approached the doors, a teenaged dude coming out of the YMCA threw his arms up over his head and yelled, “woah! Wait there ma’am! I’m coming! Don’t move! It’s really icy!” And then he held me by the arm and guided me through the campus doors, saying, “I’ve got cha,” and, “there you go! Safe and sound!” I’m seriously considering colouring my hair.

Okay, that’s it. I hope you’re all embracing stretchy pants and old age just like I am.

. . .

These cookies are like little pillows made of oatmeal and sugar. They are soft and have a lovely touch of cinnamon. They bear 2.0’s stamp of approval, which is basically like a James Beard Foundation Award, but less likely to be found on Wikipedia.

You just make my day! Good luck with all that Gluten!

  2. Juls on January 13, 2013 at 10:46 am

That teenager guiding you through the doors is just too damn adorable.

    • movita beaucoup on January 13, 2013 at 6:27 pm

ADORABLE? The child thought I was a senior citizen!

      (Okay. It was pretty adorable.)

Oatmeal AND chocolate – this is perfect.

I don’t know how to feel about the Hero Teenager. On one hand, that was very sweet and kind, and I like the idea of being rescued quite a lot. Us modern women have a hard time allowing ourselves to be the damsel in distress, right? But at the same time, I can dig that you might be wondering what just happened and when you turned into a old blind lady that needed escorted across the ice.

Did you say ‘thank you dear’ in a quavery voice after?

    • movita beaucoup on January 19, 2013 at 10:04 pm

Yes. And then I told him about my three cats and offered him a hard candy.

  4. Grace @ Cultural Life on January 13, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Yum! Very tasty. Anything with chocolate gets my vote of approval. 🙂

  5. Melissa@EyesBigger on January 13, 2013 at 12:58 pm

Well howdy ma’am! I got called ma’am recently too. I guess the Chucks I wear everywhere aren’t fooling anyone. Also, did it occur to you that maybe he thought you were super cute and just wanted an excuse to chat you up? Distinct possibility. This is what i tell myself anyway.
Oatmeal cookies are the comfort food of the cookie world. Indeed.

  6. trialsinfood on January 13, 2013 at 1:48 pm

    lol. the cookies look awesome!

  7. stephbo93 on January 13, 2013 at 2:10 pm

I love it when you tell us random crap ’cause that’s exactly how my brain works. I get it. Those cookies look yummy!!! I’ve never made oatmeal cookies, but I love to eat them. My doctor said I should eat more whole grains, which for me translates to, “you should eat copious amounts of oatmeal cookies every day.”

    • movita beaucoup on January 13, 2013 at 6:28 pm

Gawd, I should have mentioned that these cookies are totally healthy! WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT?

  8. glutenfreezen on January 13, 2013 at 3:03 pm

Oh how I’ve missed you! I’m living in the woods now and don’t get out much. 😉 Looks like you made the perfect Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookie. But we knew you would. xoxo ~ April

  9. juanitascocina on January 13, 2013 at 3:03 pm

Oh, so you mean if I go to baking school I have to work for free? Hmmmm…can’t I set my own price?

But, you can’t put a pricetag on these baby!

  10. Ra on January 13, 2013 at 3:04 pm

Set it on fire? Is gingerbread flammable? Post the video!

  11. jessieharrold on January 13, 2013 at 8:44 pm

This post is hilarious! I’ve been following your blog for a few weeks – I’ve just launched my own food blog (www.purplehousecafe.com) and I’m enjoying reading the blogs of other local foodies. I’m looking forward to reading more about your baking school adventures!

  12. Lan | angry asian on January 14, 2013 at 11:38 am

your updates are always so great, i really needed it today.

  13. Ashley Bee on January 14, 2013 at 12:28 pm

Hehe! I love the commentary… poor kid probably thought he was doing a good deed, instead of insulting someone. Poor guy. Poor you too!

These cookies look amazing, and I’m not oatmeal fan. I generally was very upset when I would bite into a coveted chocolate chip cookie only to discover it was oatmeal raisin. Yuck. But oatmeal chocolate chip I could probably get behind!

  14. spree on January 14, 2013 at 1:50 pm

Your random crap is like the most entertaining, touch my heart, tickle me in the arm pits crap I ever read Movita! Sometimes I even hold off reading a new post until I need to be amused and lifted. I’m glad I waited for this one…I needed you today…and you were there! Kinda like that young (uncommonly chivalrous) dude who held you by the elbow, seeing you to a safe place! Merci beaucoup! (and your cookies look awesome, and I am SOOOO incredibly jealous that you get to bake European bread for months! – btw, have you seen the book Tartine? Oh girl you should!!!) xx

    • movita beaucoup on January 19, 2013 at 10:08 pm

Thanks, Antoinette! I have SEEN the Tartine Bread, but don’t own it. (Yet.) I must say, week one of European breads was wonderful, and I’ve consumed more Pain au Levain and Pain de Campagne that I ever thought possible…

  15. Renee on January 14, 2013 at 10:26 pm

Oh Movita – thank you so much. You always make me laugh (in a good way!) and lord knows I need some of those now. You are a baking superstar and some lucky bakery is going to love having you around, working for free (been there, done that).

  16. Amy on January 15, 2013 at 11:18 am

Sounds like it’s gonna be an amazing semester at school!! I really need to try making both bagels and pretzels. When you get a good recipe and technique, please post 🙂

  17. cravingsofalunatic on January 15, 2013 at 5:39 pm

I yelled at a dude once who was swearing in front of mini-me when she was wee little and we were careful about that crap. But then he pushed me too far and apologized and called me ma’am so I told him to F off. It sort of ruined the whole speech about not swearing in front of my kid. Yah, I’m special like that.

Where’s the f-ing pheasant under glass? I freaking googled pheasant under glass and it brought me here and I all I get are cookies. Freaking rip off.

ps can you send me like 3 dozen or so. And a pheasant…under some glass.
pps did I ever tell you after my dad died we found a stuffed pheasant under his bed. Mini-me and myself were screaming as we were trying to pull out some weird feathered thing. I still scratch my head why the man had a dead pheasant under his bed.

    • movita beaucoup on January 19, 2013 at 10:09 pm

This is the first I’ve heard of your dad’s stuffed pheasant. Somehow, he seems even cooler now…

  18. shannon on January 15, 2013 at 6:42 pm

i just want to say that kim is worse at leaving comments that i am. because they are LONGER than mine (which is no small feat) and also INSANE. send her the frigging pheasant. 🙂

these oatmeal cookies are going to be Mr. Table’s favorite; i can already tell this. why? because they look like oat pillows and they’re stuffed with chocolate chips; two things he just can’t get enough of. They look so seductive, in fact, that i’m not even telling him about them until i gather up the ingredients to make them. otherwise, all i’ll hear is “so when are you making those/are you going to make those/do you think you can make those/weren’t you supposed to make those…” you know how men are when they want food.

    • movita beaucoup on January 19, 2013 at 10:11 pm

This is basically the story of my life. 2.0 hovering, wondering when he can lick the bowl, open the oven door, or eat the leftovers. There’s a lot of pressure…

  19. wendy@chezchloe on January 16, 2013 at 12:55 am

I’m all over them come Feb 1. I’m 2 weeks in on cleaning out the sugar saturation of the holidays. We all need a random crap catch up day. Hard to narrow it down though sometimes.
It’s going to be a great year ma’am. x wendy

  20. The Kitchen Boudoir on January 16, 2013 at 7:30 pm

Ah, delicious oatmeal pillows. Having just done a load of laundry where I, of course, waited till the last minute, (and therefore was seen negotiating traffic flanked by Ikea bags twice my size and a bleach bottle atop my head), I can appreciate the kind of bedclothes I might clean up BY EATING.

  21. Barbara Bamber | justasmidgen on January 16, 2013 at 10:22 pm

Oh, Movita.. I always have an ear to ear grin when I come visit you!! You’re too funny.. and to top it off you always have a great recipe that I’m dying to try.. cinnamon, buttermilk… and it’s a family recipe as well! Thanks, ma’am!! (heehee) xx Smidge (who is much older than you)

Oh divinity. They remind me of my childhood 🙂 As for the young fellow who helped you across the skating pond :: What. A. Sweetie. xo

  23. wee eats on January 18, 2013 at 2:45 pm

These are like my one of my fav combos, because I **LOVE** oatmeal cookies, but I DESPISE raisins in them!!! it’s like http://bit.ly/Wpz8nB

    • movita beaucoup on January 19, 2013 at 10:12 pm

Let’s face it: raisins are just garbage that someone convinced people to eat. THEY ARE DRIED UP GRAPES. THEY ARE COMPOST. BLECK.

  24. Eggton on January 19, 2013 at 8:47 am

This is why you need to wear an ironic Justin Bieber backpack–so the kids know you’re one of them. Alternatively, you could start a baking school sorority. Do they have those yet? Because then you can wear matching pink jackets and everyone will know who you are. It helps if you sing about everything, too, like in Grease. Also if 2.0 rides a motorcycle and doesn’t mind a little hair gel.

  25. themessybakerblog on January 19, 2013 at 9:56 pm

Congrats on gaining the weight back. I’m trying to shed some weight with cookie lifting. I HATE exercising, but it’s for the cookies. Sounds like you have some fun stuff coming up. Break dancing, 50 cent, working in a bakery…all very fun things. Yeah, I’m not sure how I feel about baby kimye, either. These cookies look amazeballs.

  26. Kath the Cook on January 22, 2013 at 8:04 pm

What, no video of the ginger palace fire? What kind of outfit are you running here? would love to see.
