the ballerina bakeshop: flower fairy

the ballerina bakeshop: flower fairy | movita beaucoup

This week I entered a cupcake contest. I did not win. Mostly because my entry didn’t even make it to the voting round. But that’s okay, because the other entries were pretty rad. Still, I thought you might like to see what I’ve been up to lately…

The deets: vanilla cupcake slathered in vanilla-almond buttercream. Finished with a vintage-inspired ballerina topper (lovingly embellished by hand), and royal icing flowers and leaves.

. . .

Maybe my loss will inspire you to win! Enter:

bake my cake ban pink

And then eat your entry. (I did.)

Your ballerina and your cupcake are so pretty! The other entries must be astounding if yours didn’t make it to the voting round. The vanilla cupcake is perfect with the delicate design. I know a number of young ladies this cupcake would thrill!

There were some pretty cool entries in the contest, so I’m not too sad about not making the cut! Plus, these cupcakes were so much fun to make that it’s hard to complain…

I’d vote for you…because dayum girl! Look at all that gorgeousness!

Your cupcake is so beautiful! I love everything about it– the fact that the icing is cupcake shaped and not 10 inches tall– that the flowers and leave are just the right color and perfectly shaped— that your ballerina is beautiful and sparkly. Just gorgeous!!!

Thanks! Also, it was very tasty. There’s something very satisfying about eating tiny flowers…

This is too sweet. I LOVE it! I wonder if I can ispire my 4-year-old-to-be to have a ballerina party, despite the fact she ditched her ballet class after refusing to participate three weeks into it. Or wait a minute….maybe I’ll have my own ballerina party! That’s the ticket! And I have almost a whole year to prepare. You already inspired me to purchase the vintage ballerina cake toppers. If I start now, I can make swan lake ballerinas, fall fairies, AND flower fairies. Wahoooooo!

I think your cupcake is beautiful, and I’m sure it tastes the same way.

    Total winner material. Love it.

I can’t imagine why you didn’t take home the prize Movita. Diminutive, dainty, feminine, the very essence of Spring, and pretty as a picture (well, both You And your cupcake) – yours shows restraint and such very good taste! (they just don’t make judges like they used to.)

Well you have my vote my friend! I think that we might need to dress up as ballerina’s and ‘visit’ the judges next time around, I’m sure we can persuade them to our point of view. Or at least my spatula can.

    • movita beaucoup on May 8, 2013 at 10:42 am

So THAT’S what a spatula is for!

It’s a cute cupcake but plastic in/on my food gives me the heebie-jeebies. Couldn’t tell you why, but the barbie cakes gross me out. I love the rest of the design though, and I’d happily eat this sans ballerina. I envy your decorating skills!

This is the prettiest little cupcake ever, Movita! I’d vote for ya 😉

What’s the matter with those judges? Were they BLIND? This is a gorgeous cupcake and do they know you hand-embellished that little dancer? Harrumph.

i can’t even begin to understand how this didn’t make it to at least the final rounds, if not actually win the competition. All that precision! Did you have to put that together with tiny tweezers??!? Seriously, that cupcake is beautiful, and requires a patience i do not posess. nor will i, ever. I am checking off “enter cupcake competitions” from my list of to-do’s because if you can’t win with this, then clearly i am out of my league in a big way.

Hello, judges, did you not see the hand-crafted ballerina perched on top of that beautiful flower cupcake. What’s up?

  17. Amy on May 1, 2013 at 10:28 pm

This cupcake is so beautiful!!!! How did you not win?! Also, vanilla-almond buttercream sounds freaking amazing.

  18. Cravings of a Lunatic on May 2, 2013 at 1:33 am

Dude if I were in charge of that cupcake contest, or any cupcake contest for that matter, you would totally win. Cuz you’re awesome. And so are your cupcakes. (and I do not mean cupcakes as a euphemism for anything naughty)

  19. movita beaucoup on May 8, 2013 at 10:44 am

You guys are the bomb! If it makes you all feel any better, this cupcake was DEEEEELICIOUS! So I’m really not sad about missing the cut…

Oh, my gosh.. these are beautiful!!! You should have totally won, I think you should be so proud and impressed with yourself because I’m sure proud and impressed with you, Movita. Your baking has become so polished and professional, you are totally so gifted! xx

don’t be discouraged at all, you know how many entrepreneurs have failed the first time, second and third, etc, etc? Keep trying different colors, etc. I love your work!

    • movita beaucoup on April 6, 2015 at 9:26 am

Not to worry – I wasn’t discouraged in the least! It was a small newspaper contest I entered for fun. I have a lovely little cake business that is thriving! Thanks for the encouragement…
