pumpkin carve-off 2012 – group 2
Yay! Day two of voting! There are two groups of pumpkins for you to judge today – double the fun! Cast your vote at the bottom of the post – and don’t forget to choose your favourite pumpkin in Group 3 (a Beaucoup family face-off).
. . .
Shannon’s Home for Lottie
You might remember Shannon from Bake My Cake 2012. Or you might remember the oatmeal she made for me on my first day of baking school. And you might remember the sheep I made for her. Shannon named that sheep Charlotte. And Shannon’s pumpkin is a carefully crafted living environment for Charlotte – aka Lottie.
When Lottie asked Shannon about the design, Shannon said:
I made you a tree-filled meadow. There’s a little house in the corner to the left, and then there’s a giant oak tree in the center, so you can sit under it and take naps in the shade. I thought you’d enjoy it because I feel like Nova Scotia is filled with meadows, and probably trees too. Maybe they even have pumpkins. You’ll be protected, because pumpkins have hard sides.
People, there’s no freakin’ way I could ever carve a pumpkin like this. Look at that thing! It has dimensions and stuff. Like, three of ’em. Mother of pearl. When Shannon does something, she does it way right. You need to read Shannon’s blog post on her entry – it’s pretty epic. THERE IS A PICTURE OF LOTTIE ENJOYING HIGH TEA.
(I’m so glad Charlotte lives with Shannon now.)
. . .
Lan & DW’s Bowser
You might remember Lan from Bake My Cake 2012. You might remember her Kid ‘n Play dance photo. Or her zombie apocalypse dance video. Or maybe you read her blog – which is getting more gorgeous by the second.
Lan sent the following information with her entry:
Here is our entry for your Pumpkin Carving Extravaganza.
i wanted a hello kitty type thing, dw wanted bowser. dw was the carver, so dw got bowser.
dw also is a star wars fan and that is why a tauntaun is in the frame with bowser.
When I first saw Lan’s pumpkin, I was all: holy crow! I made my family stand around the computer to ooh and aah. And then I was all: wait… what the hell is a bowser? And seconds later I was all: WHAT THE HELL IS A TAUNTAUN?!
That’s the thing about this pumpkin – it makes you think. It makes you wonder why DW didn’t want to carve a Hello Kitty pumpkin. It makes you google “bowser” to find out that Bowser (aka King Koopa) is a character from a video game – Super Mario, I guess. It makes you google “tuantuan,” after which you will be saddened to find a site called Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki. And it is there that you will learn that tauntauns are a species of reptomammals from Star Wars, and that DW must be a huge nerd.
Still. The pumpkin is pretty badass, don’t cha think?
. . .
Katherine & Scott’s Pluto the Friendly Pumpkin Fiend
You might remember Katherine and Scott from Ginger 2011. Or Bake My Cake 2012. Maybe you recall their Bake My Cake 2012 outtakes. Or their dance photos. Katherine helped me when I ate moths. And Katherine has an über funny blog, Eggton, that has convinced me that living in Alabama might be pretty damn fun.
Katherine and Scott sent the following note with their entry:
Our pumpkin is named Pluto the Friendly Pumpkin Fiend. He has sneaker feet because he likes to stroll around. As you can see, he only has one eye, but that’s okay because he also has mushroom antennae. His favorite food is candles.
Tooles,
Scott and Katherine
Scott is way into science. He does physics and stuff. People who do physics like space, Star Trek, mushrooms and aliens. Which explains this pumpkin. Can you imagine how much time was spent discussing the negative space in this pumpkin? The fundamental limit to the amount of precision that can be achieved (Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle)? The black hole information paradox? STRING THEORY?
It’s a wonder Katherine gets anything done.
. . .
There you have it. Three entries from people who are clearly obsessed with me. Cast your vote below! (And then cast your vote for the Group 3 contenders over here.)
Poll will be open until about 9 pm AST (8 pm EST). The winning pumpkin (ONE) from this round will go on to compete in the finals on October 30, 2012. For more information on how the voting will go down, click here.
This was a tuff one. 😉
I really loved the Angry Asian one but since this is a popularity contest, I had to vote for Katherine and Scott, because they are funny and have cute dogs and made an adorable outerspace pumpkin even we average brained mortals could appreciate. Also, who could NOT vote for Shannon and Lottie and her imaginary Nova Scotia home with trees and meadows of which myths are made?
Sorry, Lan, you’ve been outcuted. Perhaps DW will listen to you next year. (Tell him he’s so talented he can put his hand to anything, even Hello Kitty. I find flattery often works when I want my way.)
i cannot say i blame you! their pumpkin is friggin adorable.
Rats. I thought I got to vote for two (since two go through) but just realized that I could only click on one. I’m a little slow today. This is going to be even harder than I thought.
best line: DW must be a huge nerd. one of the many. many reasons why i fell in love with him.
these entries are fantastic. how can i compete against a sheep’s home and a planetary alien creation?!
i can’t win, unless i can get my nerd boyfriend to figure out a way to get around the cookies and IP address thing…
[…] plan. I make lists. They comfort me. What doesn’t comfort me is trying to fit two birthdays, a pumpkin carving competiton, and a Halloween party into one month, but we did it anyway, and except for a breakdown over a […]
