bake my cake 2014 ~ winner declared!

bake my cake 2014 | movita beaucoup

We can all breathe a sigh of relief: Shannon has finally won a competition! So, it is with great pleasure that I officially declare her Bake My Cake champ! Laura’s fondant covered tribute was runner-up in a tightly fought race for second place. Well done, my little protégé!

Congrats on your sweet victory, Shannon. Your stacked masterpiece is a wonderful celebration of everything I hate, and I thank you for baking the cake of my nightmares. Only a true friend would go to that much trouble, and I think it’s a great closer for this competition.

I’d like to send a huge thank you out to all of this year’s competitors. A lot of time and effort goes into creating cakes like the ones we’ve seen this week, and you have to be a little brave and a lot crazy to enter a competition like this. Thanks for for letting me make fun of you, for supporting my blog, and for being so awesome.

Voters, I appreciate the time you took to cast your votes in this epic buttercream battle. As always, the comments you left were better than anything I could ever write in my commentary.

And finally, I’d like to thank each and every one of you who stops by to read my ridiculous blog on the regular. My favourite thing about blogging is you, and I thank you for making this space one of my favourite places to be.

Next stop: Pumpkin Carve-Off 2014!

*sniff* oh my goodness…oh my goodness, where to begin. I’d like to thank Movita, for without whom this horrible cake would never have seen the light of day; I wish you the best of birthdays with this cake even though it was designed to make you pass out. I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me, because AWESOME, i don’t even have that many friends in real life so it made me feel like i had some here? yay? And also thank you for all the sweet comments, most especially from Mellissa and Mr. Hungry, because they’re super funny and i sort of want to live in their house now. is that creepy? it’s okay. I’d also like to thank the regular readers of Movita, because serious: you all really must like crap. did that come out wrong? It did, i fear. I meant my cake only, not the stuff SHE puts up over here…that’s not at all crappy.
Did you just say there’s going to be a pumpkin carve-off this fall? I better start practicing on melons…

Yay! Congrats Shannon – though the other cakes were lovely, I am so glad you won! Not just because you’ve never won before (though you would have gotten my pity vote even if your cake wasn’t crappy enough to win), but because of how you translated most of Movita’s most hated foods into a single masterpiece. I will be forever in awe of your impressive and diabolical genius! Long live the squelchy cake!

I hope Mr. Hungry and Mellissa will regularly air their grievances in the comment section, as they are wildly entertaining!

Also, I’ve already started planning my pumpkin. GAME ON.

oh! and listen, to my fellow competitors: i don’t get how i won. your cakes were beautiful, all of them, and supremely well constructed. I can only imagine some sort of split vote occurred because people were so blinded by their collective beauty that they accidentally hit the button for mine out of confusion.

go shannon, it’s your birfday, gon’ eat soggy bread pudding cake filled with squelchy raisins and slathered with cream cheese, like it’s your birfday.

It was FUN to participate! Now I am starting to think about the Ginger competition. Thanks Movita, for the laughs and amusement!!! Sarah

Thanks for making me a cake, Sarah!! I can’t wait to see your Ginger masterpiece…

I love bread pudding. I live in the Caribbean and here, they don’t mess about with a dollop of rum…they go full in with the rum, the butter, and more run….Congrats, Shannon, whoever you are. Lovely!

I stared at that cake the other day for the longest while thinking, “what the…” There could be no split vote for the winner, not with this entry. 🙂

Mellis just called to tell me the news. With much respect to the other contestants, Shannon’s cake was the clear winner ( in my slanted, raisin loving view ) and deserved not only the accolades deserving of great works of culinary art, but sincere reverence….unlike things like Dorito Tacos and yogurt tubes. Bask in the glory Shannon, you are no longer a bridesmaid. The mighty raisin filled, cheesy, milk soaked bread cake has won the day….in spite of sprinkles. You have squelched* your way to victory!!

To quote the champion : ” Viva La Raisin!! ”

Matt – Sprinkle hating Hellcake fan.

    * Squelch [ skwelch ]
1] Word used in a comment on Shannon’s blog to describe the sound that is made while chewing a milk soaked Raisin. See also : Squellllllllllllch!

2] A word that rendered Mrs Hungry into a cackling, teary eyed return commenter.

3] A term that Mr Hungry found equally hilarious for several reasons…. A) The visual created by the description of the act of eating a bloated grape carcass…it is not unpleasant to a Philistine. B) The thought of Mrs Hungry’s expression if she was tricked into taking a bite of said ‘Hellcake’…even though it could lead to Mr Hungrys death. C) The possibility of a torrent of expletives… which are masterfully laced together with the skill of a sailor…and then directed at her doubled over husband that is laughing maniacally, gasping for breath.

4] It is a sure thing that Mr Hungry will beat this to death.

      1) I never “cackle”
      2) skwelch is the new twerk
      3) try sneaking bloated raisins into my food if you want – just remember that eventually you have to sleep and there will be payback….

      Dear Matt,

You have become an instant fan favourite. I’m gunna have to up my game.

Unless Mellissa kills you, that is.

      Sincerely,
      movita beaucoup

A well deserved win, Shannon! Congrats! Your cake was without a doubt, the crappiest of them all — and I mean that in the best possible way. Also, I don’t think I will ever eat a raisin again without thinking of the word “squelch” — thank you very much for drilling that word, and the images that go along with it, into my head, Mr. Hungry.

Shannon owned this contest like a boss! Congratulations, lady, for making the grossest, most disgusting, vom-inducing cake for our dear Movita 😉

RIGHT? Totally vom-inducing. Shannon’s got craptastic talent!

I’m a little late to comment, but I”m so happy Shannon won. Any cake with an upside down ballerina is a winner in my book!
